President, Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU), Jonathan Asake, in a chat with Daily Trust, backed the governor’s call for bandits’ killing.

“What we should do is to also declare war on them because we should protect the territorial integrity of the country and we have a military that can do that,” he said.

Residents of Birnin Gwari, Giwa and Chikun Local Government Areas of Kaduna State have volunteered to lead soldiers and other security agents to the hideouts of bandits.

Sani Ibrahim of Fatika district of Giwa LGA, said: “It has been their position all along” that bandits should be killed.

Abubakar Ismail, a resident of Birnin Gwarin, said: “It’s what we’ve been hoping for, the government and security forces know their hideouts and if they claim not to know, then they should come and we’ll show them.”

A community leader in Udawa village of Chikun LGA which borders Birnin Gwari asked El-Rufai and Buhari to match their words with action, saying “these kinds of statements are not new to us, all we want to see is action not statements.

“We are suffering in the hands of these bandits, let our leaders fear God and do the needful by chasing the bandits out of our communities.”

A resident of Manini village in Kurega ward of Chikun LGA, Samson Manini, said: “If the government will work with the sincerity to take action against them, it’ll be great, we want them to be killed we don’t want talks while the bandits are killing us daily.”
