Ban on illegal weapons: herdsmen not exempted

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Usman Tilli in charge of Zone 6 (Calabar) said the directive on curbing the proliferation of illegal weapons by the Inspector General of Police(IGP)  Ibrahim Idris did not exempt herdsmen.

AIG Tilli disclosed this to journalists after a brief interactive session with stakeholders at the Police Officers Mess, Abakaliki.

He warned that there would be severe consequences against any individual including politicians no matter his position caught after the expiration of period of grace from the force headquarters.

"So we are using this opportunity to inform those people who obtained arms illegally to surrender it immediately otherwise they shall bear the consequences of whatever that would happens to them", he explained.

He added that the committee set up by Inspector General of Police (IGP) has commenced work across the 36 states including Abuja.

He maintained that the initiative was ignited by reports from concerned members of the public to over proliferation of illegal arms.
