Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State has signed a law that prescribes death sentence and life imprisonment for kidnappers and rape perpetrators.
This was contained in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Justice, Rahmatu Adamu Gulma.

The statement said with the signing of the law, the punishment for kidnapping in the state under Section 247 is death sentence whereas punishment for rape under section 259 sub-section (1) is now life imprisonment.

Prior to the enactment of the new law in the state, rape was 14 years imprisonment while kidnapping was life imprisonment.
