France survive scare to reach Euro quarters
Hosts France came from behind to beat 10-man Republic of Ireland and reach the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.
The Republic had a stunning start, leading from just the second minute, as Robbie Brady converted a penalty after Shane Long was fouled in the box.
But the French hit back through Antoine Griezmann, who nodded in the equaliser before driving in the winning goal.
Shane Duffy was sent off for the Republic after tripping Griezmann, as France made it through.
Didier Deschamps’s side will face England or Iceland in the next round at Stade de France on Sunday 3 July.
Joshua knocks out Breazeale to retain IBF title
Anthony Joshua defended his IBF heavyweight title for the first time with a seventh-round knockout of Dominic Breazeale in London.
The unbeaten American was incredibly game, standing up to some brutal assaults by the champion, who now has 17 knockouts from as many fights.
But after Breazeale was floored for a second time in the seventh, the referee waved the fight off.
Joshua’s mandatory challenger is New Zealand’s Joseph Parker. Fellow Briton David Price is another viable option.
