Following the approval of his appointment by President Muhammad Buhari, Engr. Aliyu Abubakar Aziz on Monday took over as the new Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
In a short ceremony at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, Engr. Aziz was given the handover-notes by the former director general Barrister Chris Onyemenam amidst cheers by top management staff.
Onyemenam in his remarks said though he was leaving the commission at a time when the national identity registration was gaining momentum, he expressed confidence in the ability of his successor to carry the project through.
Aziz said he would hit the ground running being an insider in the commission.
A pioneer staff of NIMC and the former director, Information Technology and National Identity Database Department of NIMC before he retired in 2014, Aziz comes with more than 30 years of post-qualification experience in Engineering & Information Technology, spanning both the private and public sectors.
He holds a B. Eng in Civil Engineering and M. Sc in Structural Engineering with specialty in Computer Aided Design from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.
