Ayu did everything to stop me from emerging presidential candidate, he must go – Wike

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) must vacate his seat for peace to reign, saying that Ayu did everything possible to stop him from emerging as the presidential candidate of the party.

Discussing what transpired at the party’s primaries in May, in a television interview monitored by our correspondent, Wike said there was nothing the national chairman did not do “for me not to emerge as the PDP candidate,” accusing him of manipulating the system to ensure that all the numbers did not add up in his favour.

PDP Crisis: I can’t force Ayu to resign, Atiku replies Wike’s camp

He said Ayu had failed to do what is right for the party and should give way for peace to prevail, adding that Ayu was calling many of the presidential aspirants to step down for Atiku to emerge.

Reflecting on the role played by the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, during the convention, Wike said for to survive as a politician in Nigeria, one must have a shock absorber.

He said Tambuwal “has done what he thinks is the best for him. If his conscience pricks him, he knows what to do. For me, I have moved on, I am not even thinking about that.”

He accused the PDP stakeholders of becoming arrogant, “when we have not won the election.”

Wike added that a party that wants to win election should not be arrogant the way some people in PDP had become.
