Avoid fasting on Sallah days, imam tells Muslims

The Chief Imam of Badar mosque in Kubwa, Abuja, Sheikh Abdulmimin Ahmad Khalid, has advised Muslims to avoid fasting during the first four days of Eid el-Kabir.

Imam Khalid, who led the two rakat prayers at the Kubwa Eid Ground on Wednesday, said that the Sallah day and its subsequent three days known as Ayyamul Tashreeq, were specifically for eating, drinking and intensifying in devotion, as well as praise to the Almighty Allah.

He said there should be no volunteer fasting or that of repaying the compulsory ones during the days, noting that it had been forbidden by Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).

The imam, while enjoining Muslims to pray for the peaceful existence and progress of the country, as well as safe return of the Hajj pilgrims, urged them to assist the needy as that was one of the significant rites of the Eid el-Kabir festivity.
