There is disquiet in the aviation sector over recent reorganization embarked upon by the Federal Government which saw the sack and appointments of some directors of aviation agencies.

The agencies affected are the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The Ministry of Transportation had on Friday sacked seven NCAA directors and on the same day appointed three directors at FAAN.

The newly appointed FAAN Directors are Group Captain U.S.A. Sadiq, Security Services, Capt. Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu, Airport Operations; Engr. Salisu Nura Daura, Maintenance and Engineering; and Aniefiok Umoh, General Manager, Finance.

On Monday, government also announced replacements of directors at NCAA.  However these appointments did not go down well with the Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE).

The unions it was learnt are mobilizing for a rally to express their misgivings over the appointments especially in FAAN.

They have scheduled a congress for Thursday to demand for “stoppage of assumption of the newly appointed General Manager for Finance/Accounts; confirmation of all acting positions; proper placement for all career invaders both old and new and immediate release of outstanding 2016 management cadre promotion”.

General Secretary of NUATE, Comrade Olayinka Abioye confirmed that “there are profound grumblings in the polity over the appointments”.

James Daudu, spokesman to the Minister of State for Aviation Senator Hadi Sirika, did not respond to calls and a message over the development.
