The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has so far created over 50,000 direct and indirect jobs.
This was revealed by the Director-General of the Council, Jelani Aliyu, when he led board members and management of the council in an inspection tour of the Solar-powered recharging point for electric vehicles and the Service hub in Sokoto on Friday.
“This sector can come into the rescue of the country in terms of job creation.
“It is the sector that can create millions of job looking at the momentum that is gathering in terms of investment already made into the country by both local and international investors,” he said.
According to him, a lot of components of the electric vehicles made in Nigeria would be produced within the country.
On the recharge points, he said three were being established in collaboration with energy research centres of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, University of Nigeria Nssuka and the University of Lagos.
“All we have to do is to tap into our natural resources like solar, wind and make the necessary power for the vehicles.
“We are committed to ensuring air-polluting-zero machine vehicles in Nigeria,” he said.
The Board chairman, Senator Osita Izunaso, expressed satisfaction with the way the projects were being executed, advising the council to seek the support of the Nigeria Energy Commission to achieve its goals.
Another board member, Engineer Emmanuel Kwaya, said that the service hubs would have the capacity of testing every component of vehicles assembled in Nigeria.
This, he said, was to ensure their conformity with national and international standards.
