Eight people have lost their lives in a ghastly accident along Gusau – Sokoto highway in Zamfara State.
The Public Relations Officer of the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Auwal Usman Ruwan Doruwa told Daily Trust on Thursday that the accident occurred when a driver of a car conveying three persons tried to dodge a pothole and had a head-on collision with another car coming from Kebbi state.
“The driver, which was believed to be a staff of Federal Inland Revenue Service was coming from Kano on his way to Sokoto. However, the other three persons involved including a lecturer, were passengers.
“The car was a private one, the driver of the car decided to pick passengers from Kano to Sokoto as some private car owners do when ever they are travelling”
“But the other vehicle conveying four persons were coming from Ribah in the neighbouring Kebbi state and heading to Sheme town in Katsina state for a family visit.
“Eight persons on board the vehicles died while two of the victims who sustained injuries are responding to treatments at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau and another medical facility in Maru local government,” Ruwan Doruwa said.
However, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Yassar Shehu, did not give further details, referring our correspondent to the police, who he said took part in the rescue operation.
