Nigeria’s Women’s Under 18 Handball team were soundly beaten 33-14 by Austria Tuesday in a classification competition tagged President Cup at the IHF Women’s Under 18 Handball World Championship ongoing in Chuzhou, China.
Coach Shittu Adewunmi Agboola’s tutored team played second fiddle to Austria all through the match as a result of not taking their chances which resulted in them just scoring 8 goals while their opponent scored 17 goals in the first half.
The second half was the same as they had a lot of turnovers which allowed Austria to score several of their goals from fastbreaks and the near goals to win the match 33-14.
Nigeria had 47 shots but could only score 14 goals from it and had an abysmally 30% all shots efficiency.

It will be noted that Nigeria’s participation in the Championship was over after losing 22-23 to Chile in the second-tier President Cup.
Nigeria reclined to the President’s Cup, where they are housed in Group 1 alongside Chile, Austria and Angola; having lost to Serbia and Montenegro, and failed to make it out of Group B, into the championship’s knockout phases.
But having earned a well-deserved 29-21 victory over fellow African, Angola; Nigeria had a chance in the repechage to win the President Cup, but they ended up losing by a solitary point 23-22 to Chile earlier.
Nigeria will play a placement match against Chinese Taipei on Thursday at 2am.
