Australia’s Jasper Stubbs sealed a “life-changing” ticket to the 2024 US Masters and British Open on Sunday with a tense three-way playoff victory at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championships.
The 22-year-old started the day at Royal Melbourne Golf Club six shots adrift of Chinese overnight leader Zheng Sampson-Yunhe, who took a four-stroke lead into the final round.
But Zheng slumped to a four-over-par 75 on the demanding sandbelt course, while Stubbs posted 69 and China’s Ding Wenyi a 70 to set up a three-way playoff, with the Australian holding his nerve to win.
