The Nigeria Association of Auctioneers (NAA) has set up a nine-member caretaker and electoral committee following the dissolution of its National Executive Council (NEC) during its extraordinary general meeting held in Abuja over the weekend.
The meeting, attended by the members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and a majority of state and national executives, resulted in the formation of several new committees.
The nine-member caretaker and electoral committee was set up, with representatives from each of the six geopolitical zones.
Hajiya Salamatu Abdullahi was appointed chairperson of the caretaker/electoral committee, while Barrister Ben Coco Attah will serve as secretary for both the caretaker/electoral committee, as well as the newly formed constitution review committee.

The committees will oversee the smooth transition to a new executive team at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM).
King Alfred Diete-Spiff, CFR, chairman of the BoT, who emphasised the importance of the transition, said, “At our last AGM in Osogbo, Osun State, we agreed to hold an emergency general meeting to address three key issues: the review of the constitution, the matter of executives who have overstayed their terms since 2013 and the unaudited financial reports for 2021, 2022 and 2023.”
King Diete-Spiff expressed disappointment that the former National President, Alhaji Aliyu Kiliya, did not convene the meeting as planned in June despite being given a two-week notice.
In addition, a seven-member constitution review committee was formed to examine and recommend changes to the NAA constitution for approval at the next AGM.
Engr Isibor Abhulimen, the former general secretary of NAA, proposed a reconciliation process to address grievances and to strengthen the association by increasing membership.
He said, “There is strength in unity and numbers. Those willing to return should do so with a clear intent of reconciliation.”
The meeting, which included 67 members from both the BoT and executives across 24 states, also saw the presentation and adoption of the 2021, 2022 and 2023 financial reports by the former Financial Secretary, Hajiya Salamatu Abdullahi, and the former Treasurer, Chief I. K. Nwankwo.
