Operatives of the Ogun Police Command have arrested a car wash attendant, Kazeem Olanrewaju, for allegedly stealing a customer’s car.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told journalists in Abeokuta that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday.
According to Oyeyemi, the suspect was arrested with the vehicle, a Toyota Venza with registration number, APP 775 GB, while on his way to Benin Republic to sell the car.
The PPRO said the suspect was arrested when the DPO of Idiroko division, Shadrach Oriloye, was on routine patrol with his men, and sighted the car which number plate was removed and driven in a suspicious manner.
“He (suspect) was flagged down, but instead of him to stop, he started driving away.
“He was chased and apprehended and on searching the vehicle, it was discovered that the number plate was removed and kept inside the car,” Oyeyemi said.
The police spokesman added, “On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was working with a car wash in Festac town, Lagos State, and he was given the car by a customer to wash.
According to the PPRO, preliminary investigation revealed that the case was reported at Festac town police station by the owner of the car and the station had been on the lookout for possible recovery of the car. The station has since been informed of the recovery.
