Attempted jailbreak: Rivers correctional centre begins probe

An investigative team has arrived in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, to probe the Monday attempted jailbreak at the correctional centre in the city.

One person reportedly died when a fight broke out between two inmates at the centre located in the old Port Harcourt Township.

Some inmates capitalised on the fight between the two inmates to scale the fence but were repelled by the security operatives stationed outside the centre.

The correctional centre Public Relations Officer, Juliet Ofoni, told our reporter that an investigative team had arrived from Abuja to investigate the circumstances surrounding the matter.

She said that the centre would issue a statement on the matter after the investigation.
