Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has said the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, will win the  2023 presidential election.

He said the former vice president, if elected, would unify the country by bringing all together regardless of all differences.

The governor stated this at a rally to welcome opposition stalwarts, including the immediate past deputy governor of Bauchi State, Abdu Sule Katagum and Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman and others who joined the PDP at a function held at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, on Wednesday in Bauchi.

The event was attended by Atiku.

“Bauchi people love Atiku and they believe in him because they know what he can do and we are ready to mobilise support and votes for him. We are behind him and we will work for him, I know most of the decampees are coming to PDP not only because of what we are doing, but because of Atiku, our PDP presidential candidate.

“Insha Allahu, you will emerge victorious in the presidential election,” the governor stated.

Responding, Atiku commended the governor and PDP in Bauchi for the milestone achievements in critical sectors of the state’s economy.

He urged the people of the state to appreciate the gesture by supporting continuity for better service delivery.

Atiku also called for teamwork in the area of massive mobilisation of votes for all PDP candidates. “It is my honour to officially welcome all our decampees to PDP in Bauchi State. There is no other party in Nigeria than the PDP, because it is a strong and older formidable party.”

Why Saraki, Shekarau, others were brought on board

Fresh facts have emerged as to why Atiku brought a former Senate president, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, into his campaign machinery.

Atiku, on September 26, brought Saraki, another former Senate president, Pius Anyim, and former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, into his campaign machinery.

It was gathered that Saraki was brought on board because of the role he played in unifying the party.

A source said, “Unlike some elements around the candidate, he has made contact with the various aggrieved groups to achieve genuine reconciliation.

“Up till today, he remains one of the leaders behind Atiku that all the various tendencies in the party can trust and relate with. This is because of the general perception that Saraki stands for justice, fairness, equity, inclusivity, and peace.

“More importantly, Saraki is highly regarded as the only presidential aspirant in the PDP who has the most support among the youth within and outside the party.

“The youth see him as a politician who understands their language, hopes and aspirations and can relate very well with them. “
