The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has described the killings in Zamfara State as one too many.

Daily Trust reports that more than 40 people have been killed in the last two weeks in the renewed attacks by armed bandits.

Reacting, Atiku, in a tweet, said the people of Zamfara deserved to live in peace and safety.

“The recent killings in Magami village in Faru District of Maradun LGA of Zamfara is one too many. The people of Zamfara and indeed all peoples of Nigeria deserve to live in peace and safety”, he said.

It’s a threat to our democracy- Saraki

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, in a tweet, said the recent killings in Zamfara was a threat to the nation’s democracy particularly, as the nation moved towards the general elections.

Saraki called for overhaul of the security architecture in order to bring it to a state where it can effectively tackle emerging threats and challenges.

Why Northern leaders are mute – Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna central senatorial district also, in a tweet, stated reasons Northern elites were silent over the cases of killings and kidnappings in the region.

The senator said the leaders were mute because of fear and indifference.

“Northern political elites are silent on the frequent killings and kidnappings in the north out of any of these three reasons; fear: not to be seen opposing the Government; belief that the President is doing his best; indifference because it’s the poor that are dying”, he said.

In a separate tweet, the senator representing Kaduna central senatorial district said, “Mourning and funerals have become part of the daily lives of the people of Zamfara and Birnin Gwari. Because of the frequency of killings, the FG and states have run out of condemnations and sending condolences to the families of the victims, the press too no more treats it as a cover story.”

Sani was reacting to the news of the attack on Magami village in Maradun Local Government Area in Zamfara State, where bandits killed a number of persons on Saturday.
