Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the death of former Presidential Spokesperson, Mrs. Remi Oyo was not only a loss to Nigerian journalism, but also to the Nigerian women.

Atiku disclosed this in a condolence message released by his media office in Abuja on Thursday.

Mrs. Oyo passed away in London on Wednesday aged 61.

He noted that the late former Managing Director of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had distinguished herself in her own profession as an excellent and hardworking journalist who rose to the position of President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors.

Also, the minister of state for defence Musiliu Obanikoro in a condolence message expressed shock at her death.

He said “‘Mama Koro’, as I fondly call her, played a very key and motherly role in my life. My story would not be complete without reference to the great impact she made in my life.”

Obanikoro said: “She served Nigeria with great diligence and commitment. When she was Director-General of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), she brought to bear on the job, her passion for public service and built an institution that became renowned for efficiency and professionalism.”
