A popular first republic politician, Malam Tanko Yakasai, has said that his old age did not stop him from using social media and other modern technologies like his agemates.
Tanko Yakasai, who was born in 1925, said he is using his mobile phone to read news and access many other information.

In an interview with the Hausa service of the BBC, the former NEPU ally said he is not using glasses to read as he can see clearly with his eyes.
“I read a lot of issues about the world without glasses and I’m using my mobile phone to read.
“Sometimes, I open my WhatsApp to see information and read.
“If it is lengthy, I will rest a little and continue later”.
On issue of his health, Tanko Yakasai said he doesn’t have any ailment that is disturbing him, adding that he inherited lengthy years from his parents.
“I have relatives who are alive but I’m the most oldest and I inherited this from my parents.
“That’s how we are in the family.
“My father passed away when he was 96-year-old, my grandfather died at the ages of 105. It’s only my mother who died at 87,” he said.
Recalling his struggles, Yakasai said that he was arrested 10 times during colonialism, first republic and military government.
“In my political struggles, I was arrested and prosecuted 10 times both by the court and police.
“I was arrested four times during colonialism, four times during the first republic and two times during Buhari and Babangidas’ military regimes,” he added.
