As the industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) lingers, some students of the University of Jos have engaged themselves in petty businesses.
In an interview with Daily Trust in Jos, the students said they were engaged in small businesses to earn income for themselves.

Sa’adat Musa, one of the students, said “I am helping someone to sell provisions in his shop. At the end of the month, he pays me. What he is paying would go a long way in helping me solve some of my problems.
“So, I don’t just sit at home and I believe it is better for me to be doing something than to remain idle.”
Milget Nyawute, another student of the university said “I am into making local shampoo. I do that to earn a living because we can’t just sit at home without doing anything. That is not good.
“Life has become very difficult. So, you just have to start up something to pass away time; do something reasonable for yourself.”
With half a year already lost to the strike and the recent meeting of ASUU and the federal government delegation which ended in deadlock, the students are calling on the warring parties to reach a compromise to enable them to resume classes.
