An Assistant Commissioner of Police identified as Egbe Edum has been reportedly killed in Cross River while on a visit to his family in the state.
The state-based online news portal, CrossRiverWatch reports that the late ACP was a nephew of the State Deputy Governor, Professor Ivara Esu.

While information around his murder was yet to be ascertained, it was gathered that some yet to be identified hoodlums hacked him to death at about 1 a.m. on Wednesday along Murtala Mohammed Highway by Pepsi.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugho was also quoted to have confirmed the incident saying “I just confirmed it now. He is an Assistant Commissioner of Police who serves in Borno State; he is not serving here.
“I think he was coming to see his family here in Cross River, he arrived Calabar as at about 1 am when the incident happened. I learnt that they used axe on him, investigations will be launched”.
Late Edum was said to be among the 8,916 police officers promoted in March 2019.
He was before his death serving as Commander of the 73 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Magumeri, Borno State.
