The House had earlier carried out a Clause by Clause consideration of the Bill on Tuesday.

Addressing journalists at the Corps headquarters, the Commandant said the 9th National Assembly has made history through the passage of Bill sponsored at the Senate by Senator Ali Ndume.

Akoh said, “The best thing Mr President can give to Nigerian youths that will remain enduring after his tenure is to assent to the ‘Bill for an Act to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps’.

“Recall that, if you go through memory lane, virtually all the former presidents have one uniformed or security organisations that they assented to the Bill while their administrations lasted.

“It is in the same vein, Mr President is a youths friendly president. He has done a lot for Nigerian youths but, he can cap it all before he hand over by assenting to the Bill in order to give statutory recognition to this organisation.

“Recall that, in 2016, the National Assembly for the first time passed this Bill but due to one reason or the other, it wasn’t assented to for the major reason stated which was the recession the country was going through.

“This time around, in the 9th Assembly, the Senate passed the Bill four months ago and forwarded the Bill, transmitted the Bill to the House of Reps for concurrence.

“Today, I am glad to inform you just as you also know, that, the National Assembly, House of Representatives, yesterday considered the Bill Clause by Clause, and today, they have overwhelmingly passed the Bill.”
