The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has set up a five-man ad hoc committee to investigate the Special Adviser to Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura on Gender and Disability Matters, Hajiya Hajara Danyaro, over alleged payment of constituency allowances to the members of the state legislature.
Danyaro appeared before the members during a proceeding at the house, over a remark she allegedly made during a meeting with women in Lafia, to the effect that members of the state assembly were now taking additional wives as a result of the payment of constituency allowances paid to them.
It was gathered that members of the assembly were irked by the statement, saying what the governor’s adviser said was capable of inciting the public against them.
The speaker of the house, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, who set up the committee yesterday, shortly after summoning Hajiya Hajara Danyaro, called for thorough investigation.
He tasked the committee to submit its reports to the house on April 25 after giving Danyaro fair hearing.
Earlier, the governor’s aide had denied telling women that the legislators had received constituency allowances and used same in marrying more wives.
