Assembly crisis: Lalong denies hands in impeachment

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong yesterday denied having hands in the impeachment of Speaker of the state assembly, Nuhu Abok Ayuba.

Governor Lalong was responding to a submission by a Jos-based Christian cleric, Prophet Isa El-Buba, at the Annual Thanksgiving Service of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Jos, where he asked the governor to restore stability in the House after the recent impeachment of the former Speaker and the election of Yakubu Sanda.

Lalong said the House of Assembly was an autonomous body that runs its affairs independently, adding that he had nothing to do with the impeachment.

The governor advised citizens, particularly the leaders of thought, to always verify information and also engage before taking a position on any matter such as the impeachment story that has been widely misrepresented.

Meanwhile, leaders of the state All Progressives Congress (APC) have called on the new speaker to develop a robust working relationship with the executive arm of government in order to jointly move the state forward.

Speaking on behalf of the APC leaders during a stakeholders meeting, Saleh Mandung Zazzaga cautioned the new speaker to avoid the mistake of his predecessor, saying that the APC leaders in the state cautioned the impeached speaker on the need to always work in collaboration with the executive arm of government so as to avoid misunderstanding and division in governance.
