The controversy trailing the All Progressives Congress (APC) congress in Lagos State took another twist yesterday when a chairmanship aspirant called for the cancellation of the congress.
Mr. Fouad Oki, who is the chairman APC Democrats, a major bloc in the party said the congress should be cancelled on the ground that it was conducted under a balkanized Local Government system not recognized by the 1999 constitution.
Oki said he was barred from attending the congress held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena despite purchasing a nomination form.
Briefing newsmen yesterday, Oki asked the national leadership of the party to cancel the congress as it violated Section 3 (2) and part 1 of the First Schedule of the 1999 constitution; section 156 of the Electoral Act and Article 33 (i) of the APC constitution, 2014 and the APC Guidelines for State Congresses.
The Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Seye Oladejo in his response said the congress followed “in totality the guidelines stipulated by the national caretaker committee”, saying Oki failed in the same mission three years ago.
