The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation( HoCSF) Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita has reiterate her desire to see that the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria( ASCON) restore its place of glory, saying the college over the years has helped in building the capacity and manpower development of civil servants.
Oyo-Iya who said this on Thursday in Abuja while inaugurating the new Governing Board of ASCON said the appointment of the new board will reposition the college for efficient service delivery.
ASCON was established by Decree No.39 of 1973 now ASCON ACT CAP. 6, Vol.1, as the institution charged with the responsibility for the manpower development of the Civil Service.
She charged members of the board to look outside the government circle and source for funds that will sustain the operations of the college.
While acknowledging that the college recorded several successes over the years, she however, noted that dwindling resources had impacted negatively on its operations.
She also warned the board members not to interfere in the day to day administrative works of the college, but that the board can provide direction in supporting the vision of the college.
"ASCON has not only been success alone as dwindling resources over the years have impacted negatively on the activities of the school. It is in this light that I would like to urge the newly inaugurated Board to look outside the box and also to work in close collaboration with the Director General and management of the institution in order to return it to its former glory.
"Aggressive efforts should therefore be made by the board and management of the institution to explore other areas apart from government to fund its operations. Other areas of funding may include the private sectors International Development Partners ( IDPs), Non-Governmental Organizations ( NGOs)", she said.
Speaking on behalf of the board members, the Chairman, Hon. Nduka Anyanwu, said that the board would be motivated by the success of its predecessors, and would pursue the vision of the college vigorously, while working to towards making it a centre of excellence.
"ASCON will be better positioned for effective services. We shall tap from the xperiences of our predecessors and work towards making the college continue to a pool of service oriented citizens", he said.
