Asaba 2022: Oyo, Nasarawa reward medal winning athletes

Oyo State and Nasarawa State governments have rewarded their victorious athletes at the ongoing 2022 National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba, Delta State.

It will be recalled that the Oyo State government through the Commissioner of Youths and Sports, Asiwaju Seun Fakorede and Chairman of  the Sports Council, Hon. Gbenga Adewusi promised an instant cash reward of N20,000 for gold medallist, N10,000 and N5,000 for silver and bronze medallists respectively to Team Oyo athletes before the Festival started.

“As you all know that the State Governor through the Commissioner for Youths and Sports promised instant cash rewards for any athlete that wins gold, silver or bronze medal here in Delta.

“We are here again tonight to fulfil the promise. His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde is a sports-loving Governor and always ready to motivate those that have won and those who are yet to compete.

“Team Oyo has just started. We expect more gold medals across centres. We won’t be carried away with today’s medals. In fact, it is a wake-up call for us.”

In the same vein, Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, has redeemed his pledge of N16. 5 million he promised the athletes that won medals at the 2021 National Sports Festival in Edo state. 

Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Lucky Isaac Yargwa, stated this while briefing newsmen on the progress of the state contingent at Asaba 2022.

“I also wish to disclose to you that Engr. Abdullahi Sule, has graciously redeemed the sum of N16.5 million pledge he made to athletes who won medals at last year’s National Sports Festival in Edo State,” said.
