Asaba 2022: Delta emege overall winners in weightlifting

Delta State won a total of 47 medals – 21 gold, 16 silver and 9 bronze – to emerge overall winners in Weightlifting events of the 2022 National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State which ended on Saturday.

The Big Heart State came top ahead of 23 other states which included Oyo, Bayelsa, Lagos and Edo who came 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively. 

Oyo State won 11 gold, one silver and three bronze medals to place 2nd, Bayelsa were 3rd with seven gold, five silver and four bronze medals.

Lagos State got six gold, nine silver and three bronze medals totalling 18 to occupy the 4th position while 2021 host, Edo State had a total of 17 medals made up of four gold, seven silver and six bronze medals to stay 5th.

With three gold, three silver and a bronze medals, Akwa Ibom State earned their 6th position just as Abia State came 7th with two gold, two silver and a bronze medals. Kano came 8th with two gold and three bronze medals.

Federal Capital Territory, the FCT occupied the 9th position with two gold and a bronze medals. 

Although Plateau State had eight medals, they were not good enough to put them ahead of FCT as they recorded just one gold, one silver and six bronze medals to be placed 10th.
