The Gwagwalada Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar, made this known to City News yesterday.
He said men/officers comprising FRSC Regular/Special Marshals, Police, Nigeria Civil Defence and Security Corps, VIO, Man ‘O’ War and Traffic wardens have been stationed at various places, especially black spots along the Abuja-Lokoja road to ensure road safety of motorists conveying passengers to various destinations during the Christmas holiday.
He said the presence of security personnel at strategic places along the ever busy highways will no doubt reduce accident rates cautioning some of the reckless drivers along the highway during the Christmas period.
“For us in road safety, we are very mindful of this period because we know that people travel a lot during this period, we normally strategise to make sure that people travel to their various destinations without much hitch along this axis. We thank God that the road is getting better. Our strategy this time to see that people do not over-speed or overload their vehicle on the road. And people drive in accordance with the traffic rules and regulation,” he said.
He also disclosed the presence of a mobile court were road offenders will be tried adding that all these strategies which are in operation nationwide are aimed announcing the presence of road safety officials on the road to ensure the safety of all road users.
The FRSC commander however stated that the safety programme, which started on December 19, 2013, will terminate by January 12, 2014 and added that six vehicles including two power bikes have been on patrol along the Abuja-Lokoja road to ensure that road users adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
He, therefore, called on all road users to drive safely and avoid over speeding so that they will be able to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones, “The sermons for road users to drive safely become necessary so that every traveller will be able to celebrate Christmas with his or her relations and loved ones happily.
“Because it is only the living that celebrates if you drive safely, you will be able to get to your destination. They should also be careful and drive safely,” he said.   
Meanwhile, our reporter observed that there has been free vehicular movement since Friday along the Abuja-Lokoja road.
Our reporter reports that there is free flow of traffic between Giri-Zuba-Gwagwalada-Kwali axis, except in Abaji where motorists had to use a single lane.
