The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has announced a new health insurance package that allows artisans, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to get a package for as little as N15,000 per annum.
The package under Group, Individual and Family Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP), is specially designed for workers in the informal sector like mechanics, vulcanisers, tricyclists and motorcyclists.
Speaking at a sensitisation forum on the scheme in Kano, a representative of the zonal coordinator, Ibrahim Labbo, said the scheme was designed to capture the informal workers to equally enjoy better health services as they pushed the economy of the nation forward.
He said Nigeria’s informal sector was very large and as such unions and artisans should take advantage of the scheme, adding that, “It’s simple; just come to the office, register and within three months you get enrolled. No matter your status, this package can suit you.”
Earlier, the state Coordinator of the scheme, Mohammed Isyaku Yanmedi, said so far no fewer than 543,000 civil servants and their dependents had been enrolled in Kano.
