Arsonists kill guard, set Ondo filling station on fire

A security guard simply identified as Sunday has been killed at Titolu Venture Filling Station in Igoba, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The tragic incident happened in the early hours of Monday.

His attackers razed the filling station before they disappeared. The deceased guard was said to have been tied before he was shot.

The station manager, Ajisafe Oluwatobiloba, said he got notified about the fire incident around 4am.

According to him, “At about 4am, I was called by one of the residents, and on getting here, we saw the station burning; we called the fire service and they came to quench the fire, not knowing the perpetrators had killed our security guard.

“While trying to figure out what could have caused the fire, we saw where the guard was tied and killed. We also saw the keg used by the arsonist filled with petrol which part of it must have been used to wet the station before setting it on fire.”

Meanwhile, detectives from the Ondo police command who visited the scene had since deposited the guard’s corpse in the mortuary.

Contacted, spokesperson for the state Police Command, Mrs Funmi Odunlami, who confirmed the incident said investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances.
