Arson: Oyo govt. orders closure of school

The Oyo State Government on Monday ordered the closure of Community Grammar School, Olodo, over arson.

A statement issued on Monday in Ibadan by Mrs Ibironke Fatoki, the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, said the school was shut following an incident of arson in the premises on Friday.

It said the act was carried out by some miscreants after a violent protest by junior secondary school students on Thursday.

“A block of three classrooms and four cars were burnt during the protest. One life was also lost during the two-day mayhem,” it said.

The statement said that the state government had set up a six-man administrative panel to examine the immediate and remote causes of the incident.

It said that the panel was expected to submit its report within seven working days. (NAN)
