Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger fears Henrikh Mkhitaryan is facing a lengthy lay-off after limping off with a knee injury against CSKA Moscow, writes Mirror Football’s John Cross.
Arsenal will send the Armenia international for a further scan but it could put a question mark over whether he will play again this season if it is bad news.
Mkhitaryan could be out for up to six weeks depending on the scale of the damage and that a major blow for Arsenal’s run-in and Europa League campaign.
Gunners boss Wenger said: “Micki came off and he will be out for Sunday [today]. He has a scan and the fear is that his medial knee ligament has been touched. We’ll know more about that soon. For how long he will be out, I don’t know.”
Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal in January and has been a key part of their Europa League campaign.
Arsenal keeper David Ospina is out for up to three weeks and Ainsley Maitland-Niles will miss Sunday’s clash with Southampton.
Wenger admits that he is likely to make changes against Southampton to save players for the Europa League even after Arsenal enjoyed a 4-1 win over CSKA on Thursday.
