Arsenal have secured the signing of Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad in a deal that could total £31.6 million.
The 28-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the option for an additional 12 months, following the Gunners’ agreement to pay an initial £27.4 million, with an extra £4.2 million in potential add-ons.

Merino played a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph, appearing in all seven matches and netting a decisive late goal in extra time against Germany in the quarter-finals. This makes him Arsenal’s third acquisition of the transfer window, with the club opting to activate their purchase option after his loan spell from Brentford last year.
Merino is no stranger to the Premier League, having previously spent a year at Newcastle before joining Real Sociedad in 2018.
