The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Muhammed has said that the raids carried out by State Security Service, SSS on Judges homes over the weekend nationwide were saddening and deeply regrettable.

The CJN however urged Nigerians to be calm and prayerful, adding that an emergency meeting of the NJC will take place tomorrow where the issues will be comprehensively looked into.

The CJN spoke at a valedictory court sitting in honour of Justice Suleiman Galadima, which took place at the Supreme Court this morning.

Seven judges, including two of the Supreme Court Justices were arrested in the raids, which has been condemned by lawyers and rights groups. The judges are expected to be charged to court from today.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association  ( NBA) has rejected the explanation by President Muhammadu Buhari on the raids carried out by DSS.

The NBA President Abubakar Mahmud SAN maintained that the DSS raids on Judges homes was illegal.

President Muhammadu Buhari had said the raids on the judges residence by the DSS, was an assault on corruption and not on the judiciary.
