Rivers: Army Train Personnel On Financial Management

The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday organised a 3-day training workshop for its on financial management and efficient financial delivery.

Speaking at the event with the theme, “Personnel Capacity Development: A Panacea to Proactive and Efficient Financial Service Delivery,” the Chief Accounts and Budget (Army) , Major General Adetokunbo Fayemiwo, said the Division’s finance training week is designed to address the training needs of finance officers and soldiers at the division level.

Fayemiwo, who was represented by Major General Samson Jiya , the Group Managing Director of Nigerian Army Welfare Ltd by Guarantee, said the training workshop provided a good platform for updating personnel on contemporary government financial policies, financial best practices and their implications on accounting for Nigerian Army funds.

He said the duties and responsibilities of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps is central to the performance and effectiveness of the Nigerian Army both in war and peace times.

He said, “Training is one of the pillars of the Chief of Army Staff Command philosophy which is to transform the Nigerian Army into well trained , equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment. This training week will therefore further the achievement of the Chief of Army Staff’s vision for the Nigerian Army.

“The Division finance training week is designed to address the training needs of finance officers and soldiers at the Division level. It provides a good platform for updating personnel on contemporary government financial policies, financial best practices and their implications on accounting for Nigerian Army.

“The duties and responsibilities of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps is central to the performance and effectiveness of the Nigerian Army both in war and peace times. In the discharge of our duties I have mandated all Nigerian Army fiance personnel to be proactive and proficient.

“This would ensure that financial services are rendered to all Nigerian Army personnel as well as units and formations at the right time and place. They are confirmed with extant regulations and above all remain professional in their conduct as military personnel. To ensure this, I have made it mandatory for all Nigerian Army finance personnel to be adequately trained to carry out their duties at all levels.”

Earlier in his welcome address the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Major General Jamal Abdusalam said the recently released data from the Nigeria Upstream Regulatory Commission indicate that there is improvement in crude oil production output from December 2023 to April 2024.

Abdusalam said the improved production output was made possible through its operational zero tolerance on illegal activities.

He reaffirmed his commitment to ensure that 6 Division will continue to guarantee the security of lives and properties as well as critical national infrastructure within its area of responsibility.

He said the Division has prioritized training as a tool of personnel capacity building saying that the 6 Division’s finance which he said is the nerve centre of the Division must strategize in training of its personnel in other to be more proactive and absolute competent in discharging its role.
