Army reviews curriculum in training schools to end banditry, insurgency

The Nigerian Army has disclosed that its modules of training are presently being reviewed as part of the proactive response doctrine, aimed at bringing to an end the activities of insurgents and bandits as well as other armed groups that have been terrorising the country.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen T. A. Lagbaja, represented by the Chief of Training, Army, Major Gen SG Mohammed made this known at a 5-Day Doctrine and Training Conference, with the theme: Enhancing Operational Effectiveness in a Joint Environment through Tailor-Made Training at the Headquarters of the Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army in Minna, NigeBr State.

Lt. Gen Lagbaja therefore charged all commandants of Army Training Schools to pay attention to issues to be discussed at the conference and ensure full implementation during training in their respective schools.

Earlier, the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. K. O. Aligbe said the conference was to set an agenda for all the Nigerian Army Schools, Divisional Training Schools and draw inspiration for all the courses and training activities that would be conducted in the year 2024 to completely address the security challenges facing the country.

He said, “The conference would evaluate all the schools to achieve measurable milestones and objectives. Without training, you cannot fight. The doctrine gives us the latitude and spirit about how we should fight. From past experiences, more training is needed to deliver in operations. We are not talking about operational efficiency now; we are more concerned about operational effectiveness. We want to make sure that the adversaries do not have the capacity to continue to affect the law-abiding citizens the way they have been doing.”

He said the conference would also enhance the application of the Nigerian Army Doctrine 22 as an enabler for the conduct of effective training and operations which he said was pertinent to achieving the desired goals of freeing the country from insecurity.

The commander said the army has identified gaps in its previous operations, saying that all the training to be conducted in 2024 would focus on filling those gaps to achieve operational effectiveness.
