Army moves into communities following killings, arson

Troops from 13 Brigade Nigerian Army have moved into Irei and Orugbam communities in Biase LGA of Cross River State following the killings of some locals, including a bishop who was burnt alive and his son beheaded.

Six houses were reportedly set ablaze with their owners inside during the mayhem.

Violence was said to have erupted when a bishop whose name was not immediately known, was ambushed alongside his son on a motorbike on their way from Obanwan community to nearby Afikpo in Ebonyi State.

Our correspondent learnt that the communities have been having quarrels over ownership of a palm settlement in the area.

The information officer at 13 Brigade Nigerian Army Calabar, Captain Aluko, confirmed that they have moved men and materials into the communities yesterday to restore order.
