Army livestock market to ease movement of cattle – Buratai

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, has said the Army International Livestock Market and Abbattoir would serve as a transit market for the movement of livestock from Northern to Southern Nigeria.

Buratai, who was represented by the Chief of Logistics (Army), Major General Enobong Udoh, made this known during the commissioning of the International Livestock Market at Anagada Abuja, on Wednesday.

He said the market has been designed to hold all species of cattle including those imported from Niger Republic, Chad, Cameroun and Benin Republic.

He said the project, which was initiated by the Nigerian Army Welfare Limited/ Guarantee (NAWL/G), is aimed at leveraging the resources of the Army to compliment Federal Government’s efforts at providing qualitative welfare services for its personnel.

He added that, “one of the main reasons that informed the establishment of this international livestock market was the desire to generate employment for dependants of Nigerian Army personnel in accordance with the objectives of the Barrack Investment Initiative.”

He also said as part of the Army’s corporate social responsibility, the market would also support the federal government’s employment generation initiatives, to ease economic hardship in the country.
