The Commander of 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Mohammed A. Abdullahi,  has handed over four suspected armed robbers to the Nigeria Police Force in Calabar

Abdullahi paraded the suspects at the command headquarters in Calabar on Monday where Major Stanley N. Ikpeme who represented him, said the discovery followed a trail of eight suspects.

Ikpeme disclosed that the suspects robbed one Mr. Akan Udoh of the sum of N25,000.

The fourth suspect handed over to the police, Peter Obri, was arrested with a locally made pistol at a palm plantation in Biase, while his accomplice, Bassey, is still at large.

“Three suspects, Micah Edet, Bassey Udoh and Emmanuel Bassey, were arrested by members of the  NSCDC attached to OP Akpakwu on February 8, 2021 for robbing one Mr. Akan of the sun of N25,000.

“During investigation, it was discovered that the compound in question is confirmed to be a black spot with abandoned  structure where criminals sleep at night,” he said.

Similarly “Peter Obri, 25 years, was arrested on 13 January 2021 at Ibiae Rubber plantation  with a locally made pistol while attempting to steal palm fruits,” he said.

He  said the suspects have been handed over to the Cross River State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.

In their confessions, one of the suspects, Peter Obri, said he was not aware they were going to the plantation for robbery and had he only accompanied his friends.

“A friend of mine asked him to accompany him to carry something, banga, which he kept and on our way he gave me this locally made pistol.

“I asked him what he wants to use it for and he said just hold it for me.

“When we got there, we did not see the banga  and unknown to us the army had laid ambush for us and they caught me while my friend escaped.

“I am an okada rider by profession and I don’t know why he asked me to hold the pistol for him,” he said.
