Army extends closing time of Gubio road

The Nigerian Army 5 Brigade at Gubio,  Borno State, has extended the closing time of the major road in the area from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The relaxation, approved by the Brigade Commander, Colonel A Ajose, was to enable farmers in the area attend to their farms as the rainy season sets in.

The road was closed following siege by Boko Haram insurgents on towns and villages in the area.

Kanem Trust learnt that the extension followed a request to the military by the Secretary of Gubio Local Government Area, Malam Muhammad Joromi, as there were reports that farmers were frequently being arrested while returning from their farms for violating the curfew.

The Brigade Commander, while granting the request, commended the Gubio LG Secretary for his concern about the plight of the people.

Col. Ajose also expressed gratitude to the Gubio community for their support and understanding, urging them to report any suspicious person, group or item to the security on time for swift action.

“Army is ever ready to protect lives and property of the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Borno state government has given 10 tractors, three planting machines and husking machines to Gubio local government council to prepare for land cultivation in readiness of the rainy season.
