Speaking in Onna after the donation, the Commander, Brig. Gen. Abdu Hassan, said the donation to meant encourage children to study hard and become better citizens.

He said the army chose the schools on the basis that they were attended by children of low income earners who required attention.

He added that their visit to the primary schools was also intended to correct the impression that the Army was unfriendly.

The Head Teacher of Lutheran Primary School, Nung Oku in Onna, Mr Alex Idem, commended the army for the gesture, noting that the materials would motivate the pupils and reduce stress faced by their parents. He said the army had inspired the pupils with the visit, and expressed hope that the children would emulate them to serve the nation better in future.
