The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. General Tukur Buratai has said the Nigerian Army required more funds for maintenance of its facilities across the country.
He spoke on Wednesday when he received a joint committee on Army, from the Senate and House of Representatives at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
“By and large, the efforts we have done within the past three years, we have achieved a lot. As you go round, you will see the efforts, with great difference in terms of facility development.
“But, there is still much to be done. The funding still remains a challenge. It couldn’t have been a challenge, if the various infrastructures had been maintained over the years.
“But still, what were the problems that it generated, what are the conditions today, is still as a result of inadequacy of funding,” Buratai said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator George Akume said, the Joint Committee were on an oversight visit to evaluate the performance of the 20117/2018 budget.
“This is not an inquisition, and this is not the first time the committees will be doing this work,” he said.
