Army captain, 3 others kidnapped in Ondo

An Army captain, D Gana, attached to the 32 Artillery brigade of the Nigerian Army, Akure, Ondo state, has been kidnapped alongside three others  in Akoko area of Ondo state.

It was gathered that they were kidnapped at about 4am on Tuesday along Auga/Akunnu in Akoko North East local government area of Ondo state.

Sources said they were coming from Abuja when they ran into the kidnappers.

The abductors are said to be demanding for N20 million ransom.

It was also gathered that the kidnappers took all four into the bushes between Edo and Ondo states, abandoning their car behind.

The Divisional Police Officer, (DPO) of Ikare Division, was said to have led some officers to the scene where the vehicle of the Army officer was recovered.

It was also learnt that the 32 Artillery Brigade have mobilized men to comb the forest with a view to rescue the victims and apprehend the culprits.

Confirming the incident, the Spokesman of the Nigerian Army 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Captain Ayorinde Omojokun said security agencies had been deployed to rescue the officer.

Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro who also confirmed the story said the incident happened along Auga/Akunnu road at about 4.am.

He explained that the state police Commissioner Adie Undie was informed of the incident by the DPO and he had immediately launched a manhunt for the kidnappers in a bid to rescue the officer.

The PPRO said an intensive investigation of the incident has begun. He enjoined anybody with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the criminals to forward same to the police for onward action.

He assured that, both the police and military operative were already on the matter saying the victim would be released unhurt.
