A gang of armed robbers on Monday shot dead one of their members during an operation in Mgbuka-Amanzu road/Pillar Bread junction, Nkpikpa, near Onitsha, Anambra State.
The robbers who stormed the area killed their member while trying to rob a passerby.
An eyewitness, simply identified as Okwute said the gunmen, numbering about four were riding in a tricycle and double crossed an unidentified man heading to church and dispossessed him of his belongings and fled.
She said the robbers, while trying to escape the area, shot indiscriminately and their bullets mistakenly hit one of them who died instantly.

According to her, they quickly removed the corpse of their gang-member from the tricycle, dumped his corpse by the roadside and drove away.
Daily Trust gathered that police operatives from the Okpoko Police Division had since evacuated the corpse from the road.
In another development, three lifeless bodies were recovered along the Enugu-Onitsha road on Monday.
The deceased were allegedly attacked by armed robbers while traveling to their various destinations late on Sunday.
When contacted, the police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said patrol teams had intensified operations in the area.
