The Emir of Argungu in Kebbi State, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad-Mera, Friday turbaned the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, as Ganuwan Kabi.

The emirate council also honoured the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzo Kalu, as Kibiyan Kabi, and Managing Director of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Alhaji Garba Haruna, as Garkuwan Kabi.

The emir said the turbaned personalities were found worthy of the positions after thorough investigation on their respective achievements.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ganuwa is a title given to a warrior who serves as the Chief of Defence Staff of Kabin Argungu Kingdom; Kibiya is the Commander of Bows and Arrows Combatants, while Garkuwa is the Commander of Saharan Shield Warriors.

Muhammad-Mera said the recognition of the three personalities was meant to build bridges, mend relationships and foster national unity across all sections of the country.

He reminded the newly turbaned title holders that by the formal rites performed yesterday, they have become part and parcel of the Kingdom of Kabin Argungu, and in essence, part of the decision-making body of the kingdom.

The monarch advised them to be good ambassadors of the emirate wherever they found themselves.

Responding, Lawan appreciated the Emirate for finding them worthy of the titles, noting that “the turbaning on us is a trust.”

On cordial relationship that exist between Argungu Emirate and other emirates, Lawan said, “I am from Bade Emirate in Yobe State and Bade Emirate has a good cordial relationship with Argungu. This is because, we have many people from this emirate who have been living in our emirate; earning their living. This has been existing long time ago.

“I want to assure His Royal Highness that by these titles of Ganuwa, Kibiya and Garkuwa, it is a trust bestowed on us and by the grace of God we are going to do everything possible to protect the kingdom,” he assured. (NAN)
