A non-governmental organization under the aegis of the Arewa Youth Consultative Movement (AYCM) has strongly condemned the call by some sections of the North for the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The group’s National President, Comrade Kabiru Yusuf, disclosed this while addressing the press on behalf of the organization. He stated that they are not part of those calling for the leader’s resignation and will never be.
According to Yusuf, the group has passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio for their monumental achievements aimed at economic recovery and promoting peaceful coexistence in the country.
The group commended Senate President Akpabio for his leadership in the National Assembly. They highlighted that during his tenure in the 10th Assembly, several people-centric bills and initiatives, such as the Student Loan Bill and the NYSC Trust Fund Bill, were passed, significantly impacting youth empowerment.
“The call by the North for Senator Godswill Akpabio to resign despite his impactful legacy is cross-prejudice and unhealthy for our polity,” Yusuf said. “The prevailing indices suggest that Southern leaders in positions of authority are committed to shaping a brighter future for Nigeria’s youth and future generations.
“Let us unite in solidarity and endorse the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, as well as Senator Godswill Akpabio’s leadership in the National Assembly,” he said.
He further called for support for a united and indivisible Nigeria, adding that President Bola Tinubu and Senator Godswill Akpabio were working together for executive and legislative synergy with a pragmatic judiciary to improve Nigeria and offer its people a better future.
Yusuf explained that the synergy between the Senate and the executive branch has never been as cordial as it is now, even during the tenure of Senator David Mark (2007-2015), who was the longest-serving Senate President.
