Arewa group urges action to address poor electricity supply

The Arewa Youth Alliance for Progress and Development (AYAPD) has called for urgent action regarding the poor state of electricity supply in the country.

This was contained in a letter by James Ishaku, AYAPD’s secretary and addressed to Mallam Sule Abdulaziz, MD/CEO, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

In the letter dated May 17, 2024, titled ‘Notification for massive protest’, the group threatened to block all entrances and roads leading to the TCN National Headquarter, Abuja office on Friday, should the poor power supply continue.

The letter reads: “We the Arewa Youth Alliance for Progress and Development (AYAPD), write to you on the state of electricity in Nigeria. We have to engage you now because we have lost faith in your role as the MD/CEO of an Agency with a core mandate to sustain the electricity distribution in Nigeria.

“We write with deep concern regarding the ongoing power problems in Nigeria and the inefficiency of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in addressing these issues. As citizens of Nigeria, we have experienced firsthand the frequent power outages and disruptions that have become a daily occurrence in our country.

“The lack of reliable electricity has had a detrimental impact on our daily lives, businesses and overall economic development. It is unacceptable that we continue to suffer from power shortages despite the government’s promises to improve the situation. Your responsibility for transmitting electricity across the country has failed to provide Nigerians with the reliable power supply they deserve.

“It is on this premise, that we notify you of our plan action. We shall be blocking all entrances and roads leading to the TCN National Headquarter, Abuja office on the 24th- May, 2024 should the poor power supply continue.

“We demand transparency, accountability, and immediate action to improve the power infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for all Nigerians. We are not on this alone as our sister organizations within the country are with us and will join us as required.

“Our aim is to ensure that TCN prioritizes the needs of the people and work towards finding sustainable solutions to the power crisis. It is time for the government and relevant authorities to take decisive action and prioritize the welfare of its citizens.”
