Arewa group backtracks, lauds appointment of Dikko as NSC chairman

The Arewa Youth Movement has retracted its earlier statement opposing the appointment of Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC).

In a statement on Saturday, Amb. Muhammed Saad Aboki, National President, Arewa Youth Movement, said upon further review of the facts, they were were convinced that Dikko is the ideal candidate for the position.

“As a renowned football administrator, Mr. Dikko has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to good governance.

“His antecedents as Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), where he successfully managed the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), are a testament to his capabilities,” the statement said.

It continued: “Under his leadership, the LMC achieved remarkable milestones, including:

“-Effective League Management: He ensured the smooth operation of the NPFL, promoting competitiveness and sportsmanship among participating teams.

“Strategic Partnerships: Mr. Dikko forged partnerships with international football organizations, enhancing the NPFL’s reputation and attracting foreign investment.

“Transparency and Accountability: He implemented robust financial management systems, ensuring transparency and accountability in the league’s operations.”

Aboki said Dikko had passed rigorous international integrity tests as a member of FIFA’s Football Stakeholders Committee.

“He has also undergone thorough screening by the government, demonstrating his commitment to transparency and accountability,” he said.

The national president added: “We commend President Tinubu for selecting a worthy son of Arewa to lead the NSC, this appointment is more like fixing a square peg in a square hole, Mr. Dikko’s vast experience in sports administration, particularly in football management, marketing, and international match commissioning, makes him the best man for the job. Once again, thank you Mr President, we have never doubted your vision and forsight for Nigeria.

“We urge other groups and individuals to cease spreading false information about Mr. Dikko’s alleged corruption cases. These baseless allegations only serve to undermine the progress of Nigerian sports.

“Instead, we should rally behind Mr. Dikko and support his vision for Nigerian sports as we anticipate that he will bring the midas touch he has with Nigerian football into sports in general. His leadership will undoubtedly propel our nation to greater heights and allow us to reach our full potentials in the sporting world.”
