The National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) has started a one-year programme in collaboration with a consulting firm meant to improve the quality of teachers.

The programme is aimed at equipping NBAIS’s staff who do not possess certificates in education with the techniques of classroom monitoring and control of teaching and learning in schools.

The Registrar of NBAIS, Prof. Shari’u Abdullahi, said the programme was to ensure that the board enhanced quality in the conduct of teaching and learning of Arabic and Islamic studies in secondary schools across the country.

“The Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) and other capacity building programmes would not have been possible without the untiring support of the Ministries of Education and Finance and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation,” he said.

In a paper presentation, Dr. Dahunsi Toyese Najeem said the PDE programme was to develop technical, analytical and quantitative skills that could be used to analyse evaluation outcomes and policy making.
